Blog Introduction:Your dishwasher is one of your most valuable appliances. It cleans your dishes so you don’t have to do it by hand. But, like any appliance, it needs to be cleaned on a regular basis to keep it running efficiently. Here’s how to clean your dishwasher in three easy steps.
Step One: Remove the build-up on the heating element.
The first step is to remove the build-up on the heating element. The heating element is located at the bottom of the dishwasher and can become covered with food and grease over time. To clean it, remove the lower dish rack and unscrew the heating element cover. Then, use a paper towel or brush to remove any build-up on the element. Be sure to replace the cover before moving on to the next step.
Step Two: Clean out the filter.
The second step is to clean out the filter. The filter is located underneath the upper dishrack and helps catch food and debris before it has a chance to enter the pump. To clean it, remove the upper dishrack and unscrew the filter cover. Then, rinse off the filter with warm water and a mild soap. Be sure to replace the cover before moving on to step three.
Step Three: Run a hot water cycle with vinegar.
The third and final step is to run a hot water cycle with vinegar. This will help remove any remaining build-up and give your dishwasher a fresh start. Add two cups of white vinegar to a glass measuring cup and place it upside down on the top rack of your empty dishwasher. Then, run a hot water cycle without detergent. Once the cycle is complete, run another hot water cycle with detergent to ensure all traces of vinegar are removed.
That’s all there is to it! Cleaning your dishwasher regularly will help extend its lifespan and keep it running efficiently for years to come.
